Ah, resolutions. Some are met, while others fade into existence the day they were made. Although traditional resolutions are great, consider committing to personal growth in your profession. Make 2018 the year you get a promotion, develop your brand, or expand your team. Week by week we’ll be sharing our career-related resolution and how you can achieve each goal! This week’s resolution: Grow Your Professional Network.
Thirty-four years ago Nate Shaeffer started blowing glass. When he graduated from college in 1986, he opened up a Neon Shop. What started small, quickly escalated into a huge production. "We did tens of thousands of beer signs and all of the coca-cola signs for a significant part of Europe for years. By 1997 I had twenty four glass blowers." A collapse in the market due to offshore competition forced Nate to take a step back. "It was a good time for me to get out and be with my kids as a stay-at-home dad." But Nate wasn't done yet. He couldn't stop making things. What started back as as a small studio in his house, is now an inviting shop right in the heart of Dock 1053 called Glas. "I may have worn this statement out in the last two years, but I still have my feet on the brakes because we're just reacting to clients coming in."

It's been a busy 2017 at Loading Dock Raleigh. We've seen our community grow and flourish with the help of new members, companies, non-profits and more. We doubled in size and launched new office space and co-warehousing & fulfillment space. Exciting new businesses opened at Dock 1053 such as Hummingbird and Whitaker & Atlantic. Our collaboration with Bee Downtown has expanded to five rooftop hives and produced over 90 pounds of honey. We've volunteered all over the community, fulfilling our main mission of Doing Others Good. And we couldn't have done it without a whole bunch of coffee to get us through the workweeks!
Come on over to Raleigh's newest private event venue, owned by Hummingbird and Posh Nosh Catering's very own Colin Speaks! Walk through the garage doors of Whitaker & Atlantic and you are greeted by this wide open private event space that seats up to 150 guests and accommodates up to 275 guests for standing receptions. This modern space immediately draws you in with it's beautiful handcrafted wooden bar, leading up to an elegant bridal suite with its own private bathroom. The natural wood and steel are anchored by textured concrete floors and gold accented light fixtures. This, contrasted with the soft grays and blush and ivory hues, invites you in and makes you never want to leave. The patio and 3-season porch set the stage for awesome events throughout entire the year!
