2018: Grow Your Professional Network

Ah, resolutions. Some are met, while others fade into existence the day they were made. Although traditional resolutions are great, consider committing to personal growth in your profession. Make 2018 the year you get a promotion, develop your brand, or expand your team. Week by week we’ll be sharing our career-related resolution and how you can achieve each goal! This week’s resolution: Grow Your Professional Network.

Grow Your Professional Network

Having a network can open a variety of doors. Although for some, whether it be you're freshly out of college or maybe you just switched careers, making professional connects can be challenging! Cultivating a group doesn't have to be scary — it should be fun. Here are ways you can expand your network!

1. Join Your Local Chamber of Commerce

If you're a business owner, joining your local chamber of commerce is crucial. Not only does it give your business visibility amongst your area, but you'll also be one of the first to know about upcoming businesses and other development. I.e. potential partnerships. Active chamber of commerce groups hosts monthly networking events and even education programs. To find your local chamber, simply Google, "Chamber of Commerce [INSERT CITY]".

2. Meetup.com

Meetup.com is a place to find groups that are specific to your profession in your area. What's great about meetup.com is that these meetups are usually in a casually setting (hello, happy hour!). Don't see a group you're interested in? Start one!

3. Facebook Groups

Feel more comfortable chatting online than IRL? Join a Facebook group! There is usually a one or two admins of the page who promote engagement and regulate conversations (we all know things can get heated online), but typically networking Facebook groups are positive and extremely informative. Groups range from local to worldwide scale and on ocassion there is a meetup event.

4. Join a Coworking Space

One of the many great things about coworking is the community. Coworking allows you to meet a variety of people with unique passions in similar and different fields alike. Collaborative spaces, like a communal kitchen (see above) allows the start of natural conversations that could lead to something more. We see it happen at Loading Dock Raleigh all the time! Interested in joining a coworking space but don't know where to start? If you're in Raleigh come see us, we've got a spot saved just for you!
